Rosalynn Carter honored by family, friends, first ladies and presidents, including husband Jimmy

The family has kept a low profile, but Hugo was on hand to celebrate grandfather Jimmy’s 85th birthday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, according to the Boston Globe. He also attended a picnic event hosted by The Elders, a global leadership organization, with his father and his uncle Jeremy in Istanbul on Oct. 31, 2009, to raise awareness for climate change. Born April 24, 1991, in Georgia, James “Jamie” Carlton Carter is the youngest child of Jeff and Annette Carter. Jamie and his future wife, Anna, began dating in 2017, and welcomed their daughter, Rayna Rose, on March 20, 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the couple eloped on Oct. 22, 2021, and held a formal ceremony, officiated by the groom’s brother Josh, exactly one year later, per their wedding site.

The former president was in attendance in his wheelchair, with her one last time in his life. John spent the following years researching and learning more about the collection, which, as of May 2022, he was working to update with the help of the Recording Industry Association of America. During the ceremony, Jack, Chip, Jeff and Amy sweetly consoled their grieving father. “We have a big family now. We have 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, 38 of us in all,” he said. From there, the motorcade snaked through the commercial district where Rosalynn served as Jimmy’s partner in the peanut business and the old train depot from where she helped run his 1976 presidential campaign. It then passed by the old high school where Rosalynn was a valedictorian during World War II and the Plains Baptist Church, where she and the former president made a name for themselves arguing for racial integration.

It all stems from Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter’s time in the “Aloha State” early in his naval career. Jimmy’s son Jack Carter later married Elizabeth, making Jack her stepfather and Jimmy her step-grandfather. Amy Lynn Carter and James Gregory Wentzel welcomed their son, Hugo James, on July 29, 1999.
